CRD Design is Paweł Szymoński’s hand manufacturing workshop specializing in unique furniture and accessories made of carbon fibre. This extremely durable and lightweight material typically used for the construction of Formula 1 cars, spacecrafts, aeroplanes and yachts has gained a totally new form and quality in CRD Design products as a result of combining advanced technologies and innovative materials with well-thought design and manufacturing precision.
Paweł Szymoński has been fascinated with carbon fibre for many years of his work as a designer and constructor. He acquired and developed his skills and expertise as a constructor of F1C class free flying aeroplane models. To use carbon fibre in furniture design prompted him primarily aesthetic qualities of this material - elegant, geometric weave and the effect of depth.
Turning a soft sheet of loosely woven carbon fibre fabric into a three-dimensional object is laborious and long process.
For each item a mould must be made and filled with several layers of carbon fabric. Then, in the infusion process, the material is soaked with epoxy resin. After it is cured, the material is heat-treated for several hours at gradually increasing temperatures, ranging from 42ºC to 120ºC. Finished items are subsequently hand-sanded and varnished. Careful finish emphasizes exceptional structure of carbon fabric shimmering with different shades of black. Each article obtained as a result of that process is unique and created especially for individual customer.
